3. 1965 - Vietnam War: The Pentagon tells U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson that if planned operations were to succeed, the number of American troops in Vietnam has to be increased from 120,000 to 400,000.

1. 1893 - France introduces motor vehicle registration, which will later employ the lowest common denominator in a given society, and infuriate millions on a daily basis.

2. 1947 - Pakistan gains independence from the United Kingdom. We'll get them when we're done with Iran.

3. 1971 - Bahrain declares its independence from the United Kingdom. Geez those guys suck, no one wants to be their friend.
